Storage Rush Green Health and Safety Policy
Storage Rush Green is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for employees, customers, contractors and visitors across all storage and removal operations. This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety risks in our facilities and during collection, transport and delivery of goods.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our activities. We will identify, assess and control risks associated with storage, handling, lifting, loading, driving and on-site customer interactions.
We will allocate appropriate resources, maintain effective procedures, and actively promote a positive safety culture, ensuring that health and safety considerations are integral to all business decisions and day-to-day working practices.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Storage Rush Green has overall responsibility for implementing this Health and Safety Policy. Management will provide clear leadership, set expectations for safe conduct and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and industry standards.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for:
Ensuring staff understand and follow safety procedures
Providing appropriate instruction, supervision and training
Reporting, investigating and recording accidents, incidents and near misses
Maintaining a safe, clean and orderly workplace, including vehicles and equipment
Regularly reviewing risk assessments and updating control measures as needed
Employee Responsibilities
All employees share responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment. Every member of staff must:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others
Follow all safety instructions, signage and safe systems of work
Use equipment, tools and vehicles only as trained and intended
Wear suitable clothing and any required personal protective equipment
Immediately report hazards, unsafe conditions, incidents or near misses
No employee should undertake a task that they believe to be unsafe or for which they have not been trained or authorised.
Customer and Visitor Responsibilities
Customers and visitors using our storage facilities or engaging our removal services are expected to cooperate with our health and safety arrangements. All users must:
Observe site rules, notices and access controls
Park and load only in designated areas
Handle their belongings in a safe manner and avoid overloading trolleys, units or vehicles
Keep fire exits, walkways and loading bays clear at all times
Report any hazards or incidents to a member of staff without delay
Customers are responsible for ensuring that items presented for storage or removal are safe to handle, appropriately packaged and do not include prohibited or dangerous goods.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Storage Rush Green will carry out regular risk assessments for all significant activities, including lifting and carrying, loading and unloading vehicles, working in storage units, use of equipment, and the movement of vehicles in and around our sites.
Control measures may include:
Use of mechanical aids such as trolleys and lifting equipment
Manual handling guidelines and team lifting for heavier items
Designated loading and unloading zones with clear markings
Restricted access to operational areas for non-essential personnel
Safe stacking and storage procedures to minimise the risk of collapse
Safe working procedures will be documented where appropriate and communicated to employees, who must follow them at all times.
Vehicle, Driving and Transport Safety
Our removal activities involve the use of vehicles and the movement of goods between locations. We will ensure that:
Vehicles are regularly inspected and maintained in safe working order
Drivers are competent, suitably licensed and medically fit to drive
Loads are assessed, secured and distributed safely within vehicles
Routes and access points are planned to minimise risk to staff and the public
Drivers and porters must follow all road traffic laws, observe speed limits, and exercise particular care when manoeuvring in residential streets, shared access areas, storage yards and at customer premises.
Housekeeping, Maintenance and Fire Safety
We will maintain our facilities in a clean and orderly condition. Good housekeeping reduces slips, trips, falls and other preventable incidents. This includes:
Keeping floors, stairs and walkways free from obstruction and spillages
Ensuring lighting levels are adequate, especially in corridors and loading areas
Maintaining doors, locks, security systems and access controls in good condition
Regularly inspecting shelving, units and loading equipment for damage or defects
Fire safety measures will include suitable detection and alarm systems, clearly marked and unobstructed escape routes, and appropriate fire-fighting equipment. Fire procedures and evacuation routes will be displayed on site, and staff will receive training in emergency response.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core activity in storage and removals. To reduce the risk of injury we will:
Provide training in safe lifting and carrying techniques
Encourage assessment of load weight, shape and stability before moving items
Promote team handling for large or awkward objects
Discourage unsafe practices such as overreaching or carrying loads that block vision
Any mechanical or electrical equipment used in our operations, including lifting aids and tools, will be maintained and inspected on a routine basis. Only trained and authorised staff may operate such equipment.
Training, Information and Consultation
Storage Rush Green is committed to providing staff with suitable training and information on health and safety matters relevant to their roles. This may include induction training, refresher courses and task-specific instruction.
Employees are encouraged to raise safety concerns and contribute suggestions for improving health and safety performance. We will consult with staff on significant changes to working practices or facilities that may affect their health and safety.
Incident Reporting and Investigation
All accidents, injuries, near misses and hazardous situations must be reported promptly to management. We will record and investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Where necessary, we will review and update risk assessments, procedures and training materials in light of incident findings.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
We will monitor our health and safety performance through routine inspections, staff feedback and review of incident data. This Health and Safety Policy will be reviewed regularly and whenever there are significant changes in our operations, facilities or legal requirements.
Storage Rush Green is committed to continual improvement in health and safety standards, ensuring that our storage and removal services are delivered with care, professionalism and respect for the wellbeing of all who may be affected by our activities.
